“Self-Care is Radical” 8/24 in Irvine
What to know for this week
This Sunday August 24th, OC Indivisible Coalition & 50501 Orange County will be at Irvine City Hall from 2-4pm for our weekly Rally for Democracy! The rally topic is “Self-Care is Radical”.
Bring your signs, your voices, and if you are able, please bring your own reusable water bottle, as well as flats of water or prepackaged snacks to the Chill Tent to share with other attendees. We are trying to cut down on the amount of plastic waste we generate with this weekly event.
WORKERS OVER BILLIONAIRES:
Sunday, August 31st will be the day we participate in the next National Day of Action, “Workers Over Billionaires”. We are planning for this to take place at our regular rally location, but it will be a larger coalition event with many local organizations.
For those who wish to attend a protest on Labor Day (Monday 9/1), we will gather and share information about local actions that day — please follow us on socials for the latest!
Date & Time: Sunday August 31st, 2-4pm
Location: Irvine City Hall
More local info coming soon, but you can learn more about the nationwide action at: https://maydaystrong.org/

SUNDAYS IN IRVINE: MORE INFO
Join your community members in a peaceful, family-friendly grassroots rally for solidarity against tyranny, supporting all of Orange County and adjacent areas, hosted every week by 50501 Orange County Movement and OC Indivisible Coalition.
BRING:
Your voices
Your friends
Sunscreen and a hat
Water & snacks (enough to share, if possible!)
Signs encouraged but not required. A sign-making table is available; materials donations appreciated!
For those who need a place to sit, there are multiple benches available outside the City Hall building, or bring a folding chair. Marching/walking optional. Parking is available at City Hall as well as at Bill Barber Park.
WATCH FOR DETRACTORS:
As we’ve gotten bigger, we’ve noticed that detractors have started to attend as well. Beware of them, even if they seem friendly! Do NOT talk to detractors or anyone who wants to interview you in the crowd, except for our badged volunteers. This is for your safety as well as the safety for our organizers and our volunteers. The best thing to do is to ignore and move away. If you have a concern, notify a safety marshal wearing a vest and a badge. Only they should talk to or interact with any type of opposition, detractor, instigator, agitator, or provocateur.
SHIELD YOUR PRIVACY:
Remember, as you are in a public space when attending a rally or protest, you may be filmed or have your photo taken by ANYBODY — including the media, other protesters, passersby, content creators, and detractors. Please think carefully before agreeing to any interviews, as your likeness and what you say are then no longer in your control. Medical masks are available at the 50501 booth for anyone who needs them.
VENDORS:
Remember—50501oc and OC Indivisible events are not licensed to host vendors at any of our actions, and we do not sell items for fundraising. Any vendors you may see selling signs, pins, or other merchandise are not affiliated with 50501oc or OC Indivisible—those funds do not come to us and do not benefit us in any way. Please purchase at your own risk. If you would like to purchase items featuring 50501oc and OC Indivisible logos, you can check out our 0% Profit Shop here where all items are sold at-cost.
If you wish to make a monetary contribution, these are the causes we are supporting at this time:
One Million Red Cards, empowering the local immigrant community with knowledge about their legal rights and resources.
United Across Borders Foundation, supporting immigrant families impacted by ICE raids with the food and other essentials they need.
BE SMART, STAY SAFE:
Please watch this important safety video produced by the organizers of the HANDS OFF action which took place on April 5th.
More safety resources are available here.
As we continue to mobilize for justice, the stakes will only get higher. It’s vital that we keep our demonstrations nonviolent and as safe as possible for all, including your organizers. We need your help to do that!
Remember, your right to protest is covered under the First Amendment. No permit is required for this gathering. Please do not disrupt traffic.
