Weekend Update: Boycott Big Business at Irvine City Hall with our FREE GIFTING ACTIVITY!
What to know about this coming weekend
Dear neighbors,
This holiday season, we’re boycotting big business with free speech AND free stuff! Come gather with your neighbors at the Rally for Democracy this Sunday from noon-4pm and say NO to consumerism with a free gifting activity!
Maybe you’ve been meaning to clean out the things you never use, or looking for a particular item, or needing to cross gifts off your holiday to-do list. It’s the perfect opportunity to come out and be in community! Bring what you have, and take what you want.
No money, no trade, 100% free:
💚 Bring useful items in good & clean condition
💚 Bring your own blanket to display items
💚 Conflict over the same item? Rock, paper, scissors!
💚 Take leftover items home with you
💚 No sales or resale, please
Sunday November 9th, noon-4PM
Irvine City Hall (Alton & Harvard)
We’re also of course still running our weekly food & essentials drive—look for the “Food Drive Drop Off” sign. According to our mutual aid partners working directly with families impacted by immigration raids, right now folks are most in need of DIAPERS, DETERGENT, and TOILET PAPER!
Here’s a list of more suggested items:
* cereal, pasta, rice, beans
* sugar, salt, oil, flour, coffee, seasonings
* canned food, bottled water
* soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant
* toilet paper & paper towels
* dish & laundry detergent
* menstrual care products
* baby diapers and wipes
Remember, it’s not just for those who can contribute from their abundance. So give what you have, but also take what you need.
The food & essentials drive is run in partnership with United Across Borders Foundation and Orange County Rapid Response Network.
SNAP Funding Lapse: Resources & Ways to Help
With the current Republican government shutdown likely leading to a postponement in the SNAP benefits relied upon by millions of families, we want to share local resources that are available to those in need in Orange County.
SNAP and other services were put in place to support those in need, since as a society we produce more than enough for everyone. Food is a human right. There’s no need for anyone to go hungry. If you need help, there’s no shame in it. All that means is that you, like everyone else, need support from time to time.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to share with those around you from your own abundance, then in doing so you are part of creating a community and world that does not leave anyone hungry at night.
Check out our list of resources for both those who need help as well as the helpers:
