Weekend Update: Indigenous Land Acknowledgment, and a Participant Survey
What to know about this coming weekend
Dear neighbors,
This Sunday 11/23, we are hosting a land acknowledgment at the Irvine Rally for Democracy. Our indigenous community member Mazatl will be leading the ceremony and we would like to compensate him for his time and work! Volunteers have helped with crowdfunding, but we would ideally like to get over $150 total if possible and are currently short $70. If you are able to help out, please send funds via Zelle to amyinmv@proton.me.
IMPORTANT: We are also running a participant and volunteer poll to gather input on our strategic direction and the next actions we should take as a group. This survey format is conversational, incorporating YOUR ideas and adapting to YOUR participation over time in order to determine our next moves. We’ve populated the survey with many ideas and suggestions we’ve already heard from volunteers and protesters, but it’s important that you add in any unique perspectives and ideas you feel strongly about so they can be voted on by the group. We’ll be running this survey from now to 12/4 and it will help inform how we operate in the new year. When you enter your email, you will be notified about new ideas to vote on as more people add their voices to the survey.
We are looking forward to hearing from everyone and will publish the results when the survey is complete. Get started here.
Sunday 11/23: “Stewards of the Earth: Indigenous Land Acknowledgment” at the Weekly Rally for Democracy
This Sunday November 23rd, join OC Indivisible Coalition & 50501 Orange County at Irvine City Hall from 2-4pm for our weekly Rally for Democracy!
The food/essentials drive is still on; with re-intensified raid activity the need is more present than ever. Priority items include cooking oil, canned meals, protein, toilet paper, body and dish soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and diapers in larger sizes.
We will also be assembling and handing out free 3D-printed whistle kits so community members can patrol and alert their neighbors to ICE presence. Come join us!
Heads up: Through at least the end of the year, Sunday rallies in Irvine will continue to be an “unplugged”, scaled-back version of what we normally do as volunteers rest and recuperate from 9 months of nonstop weekly and daily organizing. We will still be collecting mutual aid donations each week and providing an upbeat and safe space for protesters, but there will be no speaking program or pop-up tents. Not to worry, we will be incorporating survey results into new and refreshed actions in the new year!

A big thank you to the community member who offered to contribute this article!
Every purchase is a political act. How we spend our money matters, as much as where we march or how we vote. One of the most underrated, accessible, and impactful forms of economic resistance is thrifting. [read more]
