Weekend Update: Rally for Democracy & Whistle Kit Packing
What to know about this coming weekend
Dear neighbors,
Final call: We are still looking for a new venue to host the next Really Really Free Holiday Market sometime the weekend of Dec 20!
Ideally the location would be free to use on private property with the permission of the owners. A parking lot would be perfect.
Please hit reply and let us know if you have any connections. Irvine/Tustin area preferred, but other options are also welcome.
Sunday 12/14: Weekly Rally for Democracy & Whistle Kit Packing
This Sunday December 14th, join OC Indivisible Coalition & 50501 Orange County at Irvine City Hall from 2-4pm for our weekly Rally for Democracy!
Help us blow the whistle on ICE! Come help package up whistles, zines, and red cards for our local community defense groups. Find and join yours here.
Plus, the food & essentials drive is still on. Priority items include cooking oil, canned meals, protein, toilet paper, body and dish soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and diapers in larger sizes.
Heads up: Through at least the end of the year, Sunday rallies in Irvine will continue to be an “unplugged”, scaled-back version of what we normally do as volunteers rest and recuperate from 9 months of nonstop weekly and daily organizing. We will still be collecting mutual aid donations each week and providing an upbeat and safe space for protesters, but there will be no speaking program or pop-up tents. Not to worry, we will be incorporating survey results into new and refreshed actions in the new year!
Sunday December 14th, 2PM-4PM

Saturday 12/13: Free Self-Defense Class with Greg!
This and every Saturday morning at 10am, join our dear friend Greg at the free self-defense class he hosts each week next to Soccer Field A in Bill Barber Park (that’s the park right next to Irvine City Hall!)

Love the scaled-back unplugged approach for volunteer sustainability. Burnout is real after 9 months of constant organizing and its smart to protect that energy for the longhaul. The whistlekit packing is also brilliant tactically because it distributes capacity across the community instead of centralzing everything. I helped with similar mutual aid coordination in another city and the rest/recharge periods made all the diference.
